Mark Manning (Zodiac Mindwarp) moved to Pilton in the late
90's.
He lived in Windsor Road for a while and then on The Rock.
In the early 2000's he often took his son down into
Manning's Pit to play by the bridge.
Mark is also a writer (he contributes to The Idler Magazine, for
example) and visual artist,
and 40 of his works have been bought bought by Damien
Hirst.
Mark
Manning has an Exhibition of his Paintings
Although Mark no
longer lives in Devon, he still cares about the
future of Manning's Pit, and when we had our
Exhibition at the Museum of Barnstaple and North
Devon, he arranged for one of his paintings,
Childhood's End (see below) to be taken from a
Gallery where it was being exhibited and brought
down to Barnstaple.
We are extremely grateful to Mark for his kindness.
From the moment that we started our campaign we have
been inundated with messages of support from people
who knew Manning's Pit in previous years but have
since moved away - in fact one of the first messages
we received (with an offer of financial support) was
from Greece. Another was from the Falkland Islands,
from someone stationed there, who hopes that if and
when she is able to move back to Devon with her
children, they too will be able to play in Manning's
Pit, as she did when she was a child.
