The Inaugural
Manning's Pit
Poetry Competition
Third Prize, 12 and Under

Alex Meller (Pilton Street)
(aged 10)
Alex says:
I
love swimming, surf life saving,
football and playing with Lego. Writing
a poem was a challenge for me, but I
wanted to support the Friends of
Manning’s Pit. My family and I have lots
of fun there, playing in the fields and
the river.
Alex's poem: |
A Child's Year
In all seasons
Manning's Pit shines.
Buds on buttercups
Gleaming gold,
Scent of garlic in the air,
Spring has sprung.
Now sun on water
Reflecting green,
Children splashing
In crystal stream.
Hello Summer.
Red, yellow and orange
Flood of colour.
Blackberries gleaming
Like jewels in the hedge.
Yum, yum Autumn comes.
Snow falling,
Meadows gone,
Fields bare,
Frosty air,
A dragon's breath.
Winter withers.
Seasons cycle
Back to spring,
Laughter lights my sister's eyes,
Racing headlong down the hill,
Manning's Pit
We love you still!
