Presentation of cheque

Barratt David Wilson Homes are building the Raleigh Holt development in the field adjacent to Manning's Pit, and their representative Joanna Towns came to visit Manning's Pit just before lockdown to present us with a cheque for £1000.

Joanna said "We are delighted to support the fund raising initiative of the local community for their purchase of the green space Manning's Pit."

Our campaign is about saving Manning's Pit, not stopping development where appropriate. People need homes and we have never seen responsible developers as our enemies. We were very pleased therefore to have received these words in our support from another regional firm of Developers, Newland Homes.
David Foreman, Managing Director of Newland Homes Ltd, has commented as follows:

“We have just completed a development of 21 properties at Barbican Road in Barnstaple on a brownfield town centre site that was a redundant gas works. This is the ideal scenario for the provision of new housing.

We also believe that at times it is appropriate to build on green fields or farmland, providing it is in a sustainable location and there is a demonstrated housing need, and other viable alternatives are not available.

I know Manning’s Pit very well, and it is different. It is a beautiful and special place that should not be encroached upon by new housing. Manning’s Pit should be saved for its outstanding beauty, its ecology and its valuable public amenity.”
